What does music do to you?

Music continually leaves me awestruck. It has such power- to connect, to express, to move, to define, to transport, to become. How is it possible to get lost in soundscapes? Music takes us places, sometimes alone, sometimes together. It's totally universal, yet at the same time, completely personal. I'm sure scientists have spent a lot of time on music and what effects it has, but some things science can't seem to touch nor explain.

Music is my life. It's the biggest reason why I wake up every morning (besides not wanting to be late to work and my constant desire for a cup of coffee). Every evening after work, I do something musical, whether it's jamming, rehearsing, recording, performing, writing or simply listening.

Por ejemplo:

Yesterday was the weirdest day... I fainted in the early morning (don't worry, I went to the doc and she says I'm fine) and because of it, I felt fuzzy and not right pretty much all day. After work, I rushed myself to a show and I knew I was totally not in the right groove to be performing music. But the show must go on, right? So, we started to play and what do you know- my jitters left and the outward fuzziness of the world became an internal focus on the music. I escaped everything that had been chasing me and weighing down on me all day. I lived in that moment and at that moment I was doing just fine, because of the music.

But it's not about escape. Every time I draw my bow across my fiddle strings or put my lips to a mic to sing, it's a return to my soul and who I am. It's home.

So, how about you? What does music do to you? Does it make you dance like a fool? Does it make you think twice about something that's going on in your life?
Or does it bring you home?
