The Open Mic Tour is a "tour" I am embarking on as a way to reconnect, rediscover and adventure into the New England music scene. I used to play many open mics back when I was a fresher face in Boston, and participating in them was a huge turning point in the way I felt about pursuing music. The love of sharing and experiencing music is one of the best things about being a performer and being a part of a supportive, talented, rich and diverse music scene like the one we have right here in New England is an honor. It's a family that I am so glad I stumbled upon on this journey in music. Over time, my schedule and other commitments have distracted me from the open mic scene and because of this, I miss it dearly. I wish to reaffirm my commitment to local music and reconnect with the ranks of the many musicians who color the soundscapes of New England with their music. I can't wait to meet new friends, catch up with old friends, hear new music and share with you all my experiences as I do the ‪#‎openmictour‬ !

3. Jam'n Java Open Mic feat. Courage and the Bear

If there is one thing that going to all these open mics this week has taught me, it's the fact that as similar as many open mics are, they all have very different flavors. I will explain this in a moment.

The Jam'n Java Open Mic takes place at the Kickstand Cafe in downtown Arlington. It starts earlier because the cafe stays open late specifically for the open mic. With a sign up at 6 pm on a Friday night, it was a little tough for me to fight my way through traffic to get there, but then again, this open…Read more

2. Amazing Things Art Center feat. Keith Stockless

What an incredible vibe they have at the Amazing Things Art Center for their open mic. Dan Cloutier, the host of the open mic, puts his whole heart into it. I gathered it was a bigger evening than they expected, and Dan kept things moving and feeling friendly in the room, giving personal intros for each returning performer and engaging each new performer. The Amazing Things Arts Center is a big room and a professional venue, but it felt intimate just because of the casual and communal vibe.

I loved how…Read more

1. TCAN Folk Open Mic feat. Dan Martinelli

The Center for the Arts in Natick has a strong history of enriching its community and encouraging local artists-- with an open mic that has been going on since 1997-- so, this seemed like a great place to start my open mic tour. That, plus the fact that my good friend Dan Martinelli was playing the feature set and I always love seeing him perform. He has a new EP out which you can hear here (I played fiddle on one of the tracks!).
